Ariel Pink – “Jell-O”
Ariel Pink released this ironic video-clip for his new single “Jell-O”. It’s a mash-off of some trashy footage of the gelatine production itself, pinkish raw meat pieces and “shoulders” – and neon spectral coloured psychedelic and 3D shots of Ariel Pink and friends making jello shots.
Also a Kurt Cobain character and a white rabbit appear. The song was co-written by Kim Fowley and is dedicated to him. This is a very good collection about Kim Fowley’s essential work.
No Joy – “Moon In My Mouth”
No Joy also have a new single! “Moon in My Mouth” is more tender than earlier noisy-pop shoegazy recordings.
It is off of the upcoming third album “More Faithful” that is to be released on june 9th via Mexican Summer records. Hazy vocals harmonize with acoustic guitars and a dreamy atmosphere, but much different to their past noisy-shattered songs. Still “Moon in My Mouth” is catchy in its summerish steadiness.
Nevertheless No Joy are promising the forthcoming album to be “heavier than anything they’ve done yet, while also their fastest”!
ADVAETA – “Church Cult”
ADVAETA from Brooklyn are strong in combining noisy riffs, heavy sondscapes and sweet sparkling multi-vocal melodies and melancholic Cure-ish guitar riffs. Their full upcoming album “death and the internet” is now streaming on their soundcloud.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra – “Can’t Keep Checkin’ My Phone
And now, probably the most “commercial” repeat magazine can get, we can’t stop listening to this song. It’s a very catchy and danceable tune of the New Zealand/ US trio Unknown Mortal Orchestra. The second single off of the upcoming third full-lenght “Multi-Love” that will be out May 26th on Jagjaguwar.
Hand-claps, addictive beats and souly falsetto vocal that got the groove of R’n’B and a funky bass line make you hit the repeat button as soon as the 4 and a half minuter has come to an end. Just to start of again with the mysterious trumpet and spanish guitar intro back into the beats. Reminding more than ever of early Hot Chip and ironically Justin Timberlake, in a good way.*
Justification for liking this is also the cause they support. For less phone checkin’ and more reality enjoin’!
* Just found that Ruban Nielson made this comparation the very himself! “I have a feeling that people are going to be like, ‘It’s going to sound like Justin Timberlake or something. Some people seem a bit scared that I’ve made this leap into different sounds. But I think it might be more familiar to people than they expect.” Check Rhythms for the whole interview.
